Our Story

Runway, an all-female start-up venture that was born in Silicon Beach, is pleased to offer a disruptive technology designed for the modern woman on the go.

Flight attendants were the original inspiration for the 2-shoes-in-one convertible heel, thus the company name, Runway. As a former flight attendant, Melody, the company’s CEO, experienced firsthand the daily struggle and inconvenience constantly changing back and forth from high heels to flats. As she became frustrated, she conferred with fellow flight attendants about the inconvenience of carrying two pairs of shoes and changing into two pairs of shoes. It was at this time, Melody committed to one day finding a resolution to this problem.

During an Executive MBA trip, Melody noticed fellow student Alena was constantly switching from high heels to flats between meetings. Melody took this opportunity to share her vision with Alena. Being an executive in Manhattan, Alena, the company’s CFO, instantly related to this dilemma. Years of taking the New York subway to and from work, and not so gracefully changing from flats to high heels tucked into a nearby office entryway, she always wondered if there was a way to make a shoe that was convertible allowing for the glamour of a high heel and the comfort of a modern flat. Hence, Runway Heels was born.

Runway’s high heels are engineered to accommodate the wear and tear of vigorous walking and a woman’s insatiable need to weave fashion and glamour into her footwear.

Runway’s market studies revealed that women who strive to strut their high heels with confidence experience the inconvenience of changing into comfortable sneakers or flats in order to adapt to their changing landscape.

Runway is the perfect 2-shoes-in-one solution for all women. Finally the wait is over. Goodbye hassle. Hello Runway. There is no turning back.

Give Back

Poverty in the Philippines

  • 27.9 percent of Filipinos were living below the poverty line. This estimate is a concern to the Philippine government because it shows that despite the government’s targeted efforts, poverty rates have remained relatively unchanged from their 2009 levels.
  • In the NSCB’s 2006 survey, results showed that 28.8 percent of Filipinos were living on less than $1.25 per day
  • In order for a family of five to escape the label of “extremely poor” in 2006, they would have had to earn P1,681 ($39.09) a month. In 2009, they needed to bring home P2,042 ($47.49). By the 2012 survey, those income requirements more than doubled. The most recent NSCB report shows that families must earn P5,458 ($126.93) a month to put food on the table every day. If they want to meet non-food needs, such as clothing, they would have to earn P7,821 ($181.89).

Why is this an important cause?

  • If nothing is done 1.4 billion people will live in the slums by the year 2020.
  • With that said drugs and crime will afflict the lives of the youth and promote violent gang culture.
  • Unhealthy living conditions will spread disease like wildfire.
  • If exploitation of women and children does not stop then women will continue to be illegally sex trafficked and children will continue to be abducted and victimized for child prostitution in criminal operations.
  • Human trafficking will explode and drastically increase the commercial sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines.
